A Canadian tourist accused of trying to kill his wife while vacationing in Jamaica has been denied bail.
Defense attorney Bert Samuels says a judge on Friday ordered 43-year-old Paul Martin to remain in jail until a Feb. 17 court hearing.
The suspect's family hired Samuels this week after firing a previous attorney.
Police say Martin slit his wife's throat in a rental car last month and made up a carjacking story. The attack occurred near the popular resorts of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
Cathy Lee Martin underwent surgery and has recovered.
The couple is from Ajax, Ontario.
