Finland's Korpi leads after women's short program

Kiira Korpi of Finland led after the opening short program in the women's event at the European Figure Skating Championships on Friday.
Korpi, the 2007 bronze medalist, scored 63.50 points for a crowd-pleasing routine set to "Over the Rainbow."
Russian Ksenia Makarova, who represented the United States as a junior, was second on 60.35 with a flamenco-themed program.
Sarah Meier placed third on 58.56 in her farewell before home fans. The 26-year-old Swiss retires from competition after Saturday's free skate.
Meier has twice been European runner-up behind Italy's Carolina Kostner, who slumped to sixth in defense of her title.
Kostner fell twice while landing jumps and has more than 10 points to make up on Korpi.
