Czech health minister offers more money to doctors

The Czech Republic's health minister has proposed extra funding for hospitals in efforts to make thousands of doctors abandon a plan to quit their jobs in protest of low salaries.
Leos Heger says he is capable of securing an additional 2 billion koruna ($113 million) to be used for pay increases this year.
The Czech doctors union says around 3,800 doctors have handed in their resignations effective March 1. Major university clinics in Prague, besides maternity wards, are not expected to be seriously affected but access to health care could be limited in regional hospitals if the doctors don't change their minds.
A doctors leader Milan Kubek called Friday's proposal "a huge step forward." Negotiations will continue next week.
