China starts first test of private aircraft

State media say China has started the first test flights of private aircraft in its tightly controlled airspace.
The state-run Xinhua News Agency says China's aviation authorities on Friday allowed helicopters to fly in low-altitude airspace over the southern island of Hainan. The test flights are expected to continue over the next two months.
China has been under rising pressure to further open its skies as available flight paths grow increasingly crowded.
The central government late last year said it would open part of China's low-altitude airspace to promote its aviation industry and allow the use of private airplanes.
Xinhua says every private flight still needs approval and getting it can take up to a week.
