Davos tackles diplomacy in the digital world

The turmoil in Egypt and Tunisia provides stark illustration of how the digital revolution can empower individuals on a grand scale _ but some at the World Economic Forum are concerned it can stifle diplomacy, distort decision-making, and give radicals the loudest voice.
Richard Haass, a former top U.S. diplomat who heads the Council on Foreign Relations, says that secrecy is often an important dimension in negotiation and diplomacy.
He said Friday at the World Economic Forum that oftentimes people think more systematically when they write things down. His comments referred to the recent exposure of confidential U.S. diplomatic cables by the WikiLeaks secret-spilling site, working together with The New York Times and several European papers.
