The new U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic has presented his credentials to President Vaclav Klaus.
Norman Eisen takes over a post that has been empty since his predecessor Richard Graber left in 2009, a problem for the country that has been a close U.S. ally.
Eisen, a lawyer who had worked in the Obama White House on ethics and reform said he would work "to further improve the excellent relations between the United States and the Czech Republic."
President Barack Obama bypassed the U.S. Senate and appointed Eisen an ambassador despite objections from Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican.
