Albanian opposition holds anti-gov't demonstration

The Albanian opposition is to hold an anti-government demonstration and procession to honor three supporters shot dead during a similar protest a week ago in the capital, Tirana.
Police have said they consider Friday's protest to be "a threat to national security, public order, crime prevention and human rights," and that they cannot guarantee the demonstration's security.
The opposition Socialists, led by Tirana Mayor Edi Rama, have been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sali Berisha's government for alleged corruption following months of simmering tensions over disputed national elections.
European Union and U.S. officials have urged restraint from the Socialists and the governing Democrats, who agreed to cancel a protest of their own scheduled for Saturday.
