Stojakovic needs time before joining Mavs' lineup

Peja Stojakovic isn't quite ready to join the Dallas Mavericks' rotation.
Stojakovic has been practicing with his new teammates and has been shooting after practice with Dirk Nowitzki. But coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday that Stojakovic still needs time to round into basketball shape.
The 33-year-old Serb star, who averaged 8.1 points in eight games this season, hasn't played since November for the Toronto Raptors. He missed 26 games because of a swollen left knee before he was waived. He signed with Dallas on Monday.
Carlisle said Stojakovic wouldn't be activated for Dallas' game Thursday night against Houston or Saturday night against Atlanta.
"It's going to be a while," Carlisle said. "We're going to do the right thing here and make sure he's ready to play before we throw him out there. To throw a guy unprepared into an NBA game is extremely dangerous."
