Italy wants EU to help North Africa

Italy's Foreign Minister Franco Frattini is seeking EU agreement on sending a high-level mission to countries in North Africa swept by disorders stemming from political and economic grievances.
Frattini told foreign journalists Thursday he will make the proposal at an EU summit in Brussels on Monday.
He said the mission would visit Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt, which all have faced violent protests in recent weeks, to advise on ways of strengthening democracy and civil liberties.
He said priority should be given to ensuring stability in the key country of Egypt, where a grass roots protest movement has been calling for the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak after 30-years in power.
