Mexico extradites fugitive in car-theft ring to US

A fugitive Cuban sought in connection with an auto theft ring in the United States has been extradited from Mexico to face federal charges in Florida.
Mexican officials say Teddy Santana was turned over to U.S. marshals at Mexico City International Airport on Monday.
U.S. prosecutors in Florida say the ring stole cars, tampered with their vehicle identification numbers to disguise their identity and then sold them.
Santana had been sought by the FBI since it announced in March 2009 that it had arrested 13 people in Florida and Chicago as part of a crackdown on the ring.
A statement from the Mexican federal Attorney General's Office says Santana was taken into custody Sept. 4, 2009. He had been held pending extradition.
