Haitian capsize survivors repatriated from BVI

A group of 14 Haitian migrants who survived a deadly boat capsize earlier this month have been repatriated from the British Virgin Islands.
Haitians made up a majority of approximately 30 people who were aboard a boat that apparently departed from Dutch St. Maarten and capsized near the British Virgin Islands on Dec. 6 as it tried to evade authorities. At least eight people died.
Chief Immigration Officer Dennis Jennings says that 11 migrants remain in the British territory, including five Haitians and one Dominican man who have been detained on human-smuggling charges.
Jennings said Thursday that a man from the eastern Caribbean island of Dominica and another from the southern African country of Zimbabwe are awaiting repatriation.
