Turkey mulls tougher punishments for violent fans

Turkey is contemplating the introduction of hefty prison terms for hooligans, match-fixers and athletes taking performance enhancing drugs.
A draft legislation proposed by the government foresees up to 12 years in prison for match-fixing, four years for doping and up to three years for fans chanting obscenities or racial slurs. The proposed amendments were made available on the parliament website Thursday.
Convicted hooligans would be barred from foreign travel. Even those attempting to enter stadiums without tickets could face prison terms.
The proposed changes were expected to come to the floor for debate before the start of the second half of the football season in late January.
