The National Immigration Agency (NIA) is planning to invite a total of 100 new immigrants and foreigners to join in the annual flag-raising ceremony on Jan. 1 next year and sing the national anthem to mark the start of a series of activities in celebration of the Centenary of the R.O.C., local media reported.

A total of 100 participants from more than 20 countries rehearsed the R.O.C. national anthem yesterday under the guidance of the piano instructor Chen Chien-kuan.

Hsieh Li-kung, director-general of the NIA, noted that this activity is organized to highlight the government’s efforts in culture exchange and respect for new immigrants.

The NIA also invites a number of local groups to facilitate this activity, including the Chinese Association for Relief and Ensuing Services and the Good Shepherd Social Welfare Services and a number of overseas commercial associations in Taiwan.
