Trial opens for Indonesians accused of attacks

Thirteen Islamic hard-liners have gone on trial on charges of attacking Christian worshippers as they prepared to hold prayers outside Indonesia's capital.
Prosecutors allege that Murhali Barda, a senior member of the Islamic Defenders Front, instigated the Sept. 13th assault that left two people hospitalized. He is being tried on provocation charges.
The other 12 are being tried in four groups on charges of violent and unpleasant behavior.
All the trials began Wednesday at the Bekasi District Court.
Indonesia, a secular country of 237 million people, has more Muslims than any other country in the world. A small extremist fringe has become more vocal _ and violent _ in recent years.
