An American aid group working in Haiti says one of its founders who was accused of kidnapping has been released from prison.
Materials Management Relief Corps said on its Web site that Paul Waggoner left the national penitentiary Wednesday and is getting medical attention. A Haitian father claimed the former Massachusetts resident had kidnapped his infant son. Authorities detained him for 18 days while investigating the allegation.
Waggoner and his supporters said the boy died at a hospital where he was a volunteer in February.
Waggoner's lawyer told The Associated Press that he had provided a court with the boy's death certificate from the hospital and an affidavit from the doctor who treated him.
