UN chief welcomes new Ivory Coast envoy

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is welcoming the new envoy for the man the world recognizes as Ivory Coast's president-elect.
Career diplomat Youssoufou Bamba on Wednesday presented Ban with his credentials as U.N. envoy for Alassane Ouattara's government.
Bamba is the first Ouattara government envoy to assume a diplomatic post amid a standoff with Laurent Gbagbo, the incumbent who has refused to step down following recent elections.
The U.N. General Assembly last week accepted Ouattara's choice for ambassador to the 192-member world body, automatically rescinding the credentials of Ilahiri Djedje, Ivory Coast's previous U.N. ambassador and a Gbagbo supporter.
