A police official says two people remain trapped in the rubble after a furniture store in suburban Detroit exploded and collapsed. A third person has been rescued and is in critical condition.
Inkster Deputy Police Chief Hilton Napoleon, who is assisting Wayne officers at the scene, says rescuers are dealing with a lot of debris. He says they have to be careful so they don't cause any more explosions.
Police evacuated residents from homes and businesses near the William C. Franks store in Wayne. The massive blast at about 9 a.m. (1400 GMT) was felt as much as a mile away.
Consumers Energy says the blast was likely caused by natural gas.
The family-owned furniture shop is in the heart of Wayne's business district, about 15 miles (25 kilometers) west-southwest of Detroit.
