Suspects in attack on Russian activist detained

A Russian news agency says that a local official and three other men have been arrested on charges of involvement in the beating of an environmental activist.
Environmentalist Konstantin Fetisov, who campaigned against a controversial road project in the Moscow suburb of Khimki, has remained hospitalized and unconscious after the November beating. A similar 2008 attack left reporter Mikhail Beketov brain-damaged and he lost a limb.
Both led public protests against the construction of a highway and development projects in a forest at Khimki.
The RIA Novosti news agency said the head of municipal property department at the Khimki city administration was among those detained. It said Wednesday that the investigators believe that those arrested could also have been involved in the beating of Beketov.
