Serbia adopts 2011 budget to slash deficit

Serbian lawmakers have backed the government's plan to slash the budget deficit by nearly a half next year.
Parliament approved proposals Wednesday to reduce the budget deficit to 4.1 percent of the country's gross domestic product in 2011 from 8 percent this year. Out of 149 lawmakers present in the 250-seat assembly, 128 voted for the budget.
The 2011 target has been approved by the International Monetary Fund.
The IMF earlier this month approved its last installment of a (EURO)2.9 billion standby loan to recession-hit Serbia.
