Tunisian president criticizes rioters, urges calm

Tunisia's president says rioters involved in deadly protests will be firmly punished and damage the country's image.
Two protesters angry over unemployment have died in unrest that has percolated in and around the central Tunisian town of Sidi Bouzid for the past 10 days. One was shot by police.
Zine El Abidine Ben Ali said in a televised address Tuesday night that "the law will be applied in all firmness" to punish "a minority of extremists and mercenaries instigating violence and disorder."
He also promised more government measures to boost job creation.
The tiny Muslim country is a popular tourist destination for Europeans, but tightly controlled by police. Such public unrest is rare.
