Hamas celebrates 23rd anniversary with mass rally

Hamas has decorated Gaza in its signature green color and streets are clogged as thousands head to a mass rally to celebrate the militant group's 23rd anniversary.
The group, which rules the Gaza Strip, said Tuesday it remains committed to destroying Israel, bringing back Palestinian refugees and seizing control of Jerusalem's holy sites.
In its statement, it said "anyone who give up these rights is a traitor" in an apparent dig at its rival, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who favors a peace agreement with Israel.
Much of Tuesday's hoopla seeks to boost support for the group amid economic hardship in Gaza.
Hamas seized Gaza in 2007 from forces loyal to Abbas, whose Western-backed Palestinian Authority now governs only in the West Bank.
