A Mexican official says officials have information that the leader of the brutal La Familia drug cartel has been killed in a shootout.
Government security spokesman Alejandro Poire says Nazario Moreno is thought to have been killed in two days of shootouts between cartel gunmen and federal police in the western state of Michoacan.
Poire says that the cartel gunmen have been fleeing the clash scenes with their dead. He said at news conference Friday police have information that Moreno was among the dead.
