Police say attack on Indonesian Catholics foiled

Police say they have foiled an attack on minority Christian worshippers in Muslim-majority Indonesia.
Lt. Col. Irwan Ramaini said five homemade bombs were found in the mouth of a cave in Yogyakarta province where hundreds of worshippers were due to gather late Thursday. Two similar bombs were found at a nearby police post.
The explosives were gasoline-filled bottles linked to detonators and timers.
Catholics flock once a month to the cave in Sleman district where there was once a reported sighting of the Virgin Mary.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the planned bombings.
Indonesia has a long history of religious tolerance but a small extremist Islamic fringe has become more vocal and violent in recent years.
