Congo drops World Court case against France

The Republic of Congo has ended a long-running legal battle with France over a French investigation of alleged crimes against humanity by senior Congolese officials, including a former interior minister.
The International Court of Justice says Congo has dropped the case just weeks before public hearings are scheduled to open in a dispute originally filed in 2002. The court gave no reason Thursday for Congo's decision.
The central African nation claimed that a court in Meaux, near Paris, improperly launched proceedings to try then-Interior Minister Pierre Oba in absentia for alleged crimes during the suppression of a 1998-99 rebellion.
