Brazil, Russia advance at volleyball worlds

Top-ranked Brazil defeated Germany in straight sets Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the women's volleyball world championship.
The 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 victory kept the Olympic champions unbeaten in the tournament. Natalia Pereira and Sheilla Castro led the way for Brazil, finishing with 20 and 16 points, respectively.
Defending champion Russia also secured a spot in the semifinals with a 25-19, 25-8, 25-12 win over Serbia. The United States, which has only one loss, beat the Netherlands 25-17, 25-22, 25-18 to improve its chances of qualifying for the semifinals.
