Former chief of Austrian bank Hypo charged

Austrian prosecutors have charged the former chief executive of troubled Austrian bank Hypo Alpe Adria with breach of trust and false testimony.
The Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office said Thursday the charges against Wolfgang Kulterer and two other unnamed individuals stem from a (EURO)2 million ($2.8 million) loan to the later bankrupt Styrian Spirit airline and a (EURO)150,000 ($213,000) loan to a private detective. Kulterer is also accused of not telling the truth to an investigative committee of the local parliament.
Kulterer was arrested in August and questioned as part of a probe into dealings at the financial institution, which was nationalized last year to save it from bankruptcy. He has been in pretrial detention ever since.
