Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) Chairman Chiang Pin-kun, left, visits the Taipei International Flora Expo in Taipei today.

The Taipei International Flora Expo set to open Saturday is Taiwan's best opportunity to showcase its soft power, Premier Wu Den-yi said today.

The expo presents a good platform for the country to display its achievements in horticulture, environmental protection and the fusion of culture and art, Wu said at a weekly Cabinet meeting.

Running from Nov. 6 to April 25, 2011, the expo is also one of the most important events in the Republic of China's centenary celebrations, Wu said.

Some of the 14 pavilions erected at four sites, such as the Pavilion of Future and Pavilion of Dreams, are ideal places for families to experience the power of green energy in daily life and will become tourist hot spots, Wu said.

Wu offered his best wishes to the upcoming event and said he hopes the Taipei city government will be fully prepared for the inauguration ceremony and six-month-long operation of the event.

Everyone in the country, including central and local governments, should make all-out efforts to promote and take part in the international event so as to make the city and the country proud, Wu added.
