Disaster officials say the death toll from Indonesia's most volatile volcano has climbed to 44.
Eka Saputra, who works at the National Disaster Management Agency, said Thursday that three people died when Mount Merapi unleashed its more powerful eruption Wednesday.
Another died from injuries sustained in an earlier explosion.
Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, has erupted almost daily since Oct. 26. Scientists say the worst may not be over, with pressure apparently building inside the crater.
