Unilever says Q3 profits up 19 percent, sales rise

Unilever NV, the maker of Dove soaps, Lipton teas and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, says its third-quarter earnings rose on sales growth, cost-cutting, and the weak euro, which more than offset higher raw materials costs.
Net profit was (EURO)1.25 billion ($1.75 billion), up 19 percent from (EURO)1.05 billion. Sales rose 13.2 percent to (EURO)11.5 billion, with growth strongest in emerging markets. The company said a relatively weak euro was responsible for around 8 percent of its profit increase and 10 percent of the sales rise.
The company said its underlying margins improved slightly, mostly due to cost-cutting. The company's headline numbers were in line with analysts' forecasts.
