Sudan: Darfur rebel attack kills government troops

Sudan's Interior Ministry says troops have clashed with Darfur rebels in the troubled western region and that there are casualties among the police.
The ministry says Wednesday's fighting occurred after rebels from the Justice and Equality Movement attacked a government fuel and food supplies convoy in Southern Darfur.
It says the police "suffered several losses" but gave no specifics.
Fighting in Darfur began with a 2003 rebellion by groups that accused the government of neglecting the vast desert region. It has killed up to 300,000 people and forced 2.7 million from their homes, according to U.N. figures.
Several rebel groups have been negotiating with the government but JEM and another key Darfur rebel group have boycotted the peace talks.
