France to boost screening of airline passengers

The interior minister says France will step up screening of airline passengers from some foreign countries as part of enhanced counterterrorism measures.
Brice Hortefeux says French authorities have agreed with some partner countries to "reinforce the screening of passengers headed to our country" _ though he didn't elaborate or specify which countries.
Hortefeux told parliament in a question-and-answer session Wednesday that France was maintaining its terror alert status at the second-highest level with nearly 4,300 police and gendarmes deployed each day.
France is already being extra vigilant after threats from al-Qaida and the kidnapping by the network's North African affiliate of five French citizens near a uranium mine in Niger.
