Turkish elections planned for second week of June

The Turkish prime minister says his government wants to hold general elections in the second week of June 2011.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Islamic-rooted party is vying for a third term in office. It came to power in 2002. Erdogan'government passed a series of constitutional reforms in September that received widespread public approval.
Turkey traditionally holds elections on Sunday, so they will probably be scheduled on June 12.
The Turkish electoral board has the power to decide on the election date, oversee the ballot count and announce the final results of the election.
