Wayne Rooney's reputation has already gone up in smoke, so it should be little surprise that one town will burn an effigy of the England striker as part of its annual bonfire celebrations this weekend.
After three months in which Rooney has been accused of cheating on his wife with a prostitute and publicly threatened to quit Manchester United, the southeast England town of Edenbridge has picked the burly striker to top its bonfire.
Towns across Britain light bonfires and set off fireworks every year to commemorate the failure of a Nov. 5 plot to blow up parliament and King James I in 1605.
Bonfires are traditionally topped with an effigy of conspirator Guy Fawkes but have been decorated with contemporary figures over recent years.
