Vatican bank chief meets Italy econ minister

The embattled head of the Vatican bank has met with Italy's economy minister for what the Holy See says was a regularly scheduled meeting on the financial crisis and development issues.
Some Italian news reports had said the meeting would delve into the latest scandal surrounding the bank, formally known as the Institute for Religious Works.
Italian financial police in September seized (EURO)23 million (US$30 million) from a Vatican account and placed two top bank officials under investigation for alleged violations of Italy's anti-money laundering norms.
The Vatican press office said Wednesday bank chief Ettore Gotti Tedeschi met with Economy Minister Giulio Tremonti as well as members of religious congregations who are key bank account holders.
