US, SKorean presidents discuss stalled trade deal

President Barack Obama has spoken with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak about efforts to settle a stalled free trade agreement ahead of next week's Group of 20 economic summit in Seoul.
The White House said Tuesday, congressional election day in America, that Obama told Lee on Monday that he wants to "use the next week to make progress toward an agreement."
Big Republican wins in Monday's elections could improve Obama's chance of passing the deal. Many Democrats are suspicious of the accord and want Seoul to do more to deal with its surplus in auto trade and allow more access to American beef.
The White House says that if Seoul and Washington "can reach a satisfactory agreement on the key issues for American workers, we will have a deal."
