Riot police break into blockaded Acropolis

Riot police used a side entrance to break into the site of the ancient Acropolis which protesting workers were blockading for the second day Thursday, demanding nearly two years' worth of back pay.
About 100 Culture Ministry workers had shut down Greece's most famous monument on Wednesday morning, barricading themselves inside, padlocking the entrance gates, and refusing to allow any tourists in until their demands were met.
Police in riot gear arrived on Thursday morning after a court ordered that the protesters were hindering access to an ancient site.
As bemused tourists looked on _ some snapping photos _ the protesters stood inside the monument's gates, chanting: "The strike can't be resolved with riot police and violence."
Greece is in the midst of a tough austerity program that has cut public workers' salaries and trimmed pensions because of the country severe debt crisis.
