FIFA extends Togo deadline for new elections

FIFA has allowed Togo's football federation an extra three weeks to hold elections for a new executive committee to run the troubled organization.
FIFA says it accepted the federation's request to postpone scheduled Oct. 16 polls because interim president General Seyi Memene is out of the country for medical reasons.
FIFA says elections must be held by Nov. 6 or Togo will be automatically suspended from world football.
It has asked Togolese officials for a new election schedule "as soon as possible."
FIFA imposed an interim panel to run the federation last December after an internal power struggle.
Togolese officials were embarrassed last month when a fake national team played an international friendly match against Bahrain.
