AP sources: New vehicles may reach 62 mpg by 2025

The Obama administration is signaling new cars and trucks could be required to reach an average of 62 miles per gallon (26 kilometers per liter) by 2025.
The government on Friday is laying out possible ranges of fuel efficiency requirements for the fleet of new cars and trucks being built later this decade.
People familiar with the discussions say the Transportation Department and Environmental Protection Agency will say new vehicles as a group may need to meet requirements in a range from 47 mpg (20 kpl) to 62 mpg (26 kpl) by 2025.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak in advance of an official announcement on Friday.
