Bulgarian health minister quits

Bulgaria's health minister has resigned amid growing public discontent over the government's inability to reform the ailing health care system.
Anna-Maria Borisova is the second health minister to resign in Prime Minister Boiko Borisov's center-right cabinet after it came to power last year. Her predecessor Bozhidar Nanev resigned over a conflict of interest investigation in March.
Borisova had been under fire from doctors and patient organizations, as well as from the opposition parties, who plan to file a no-confidence motion in parliament.
Bulgaria's Doctors' Union announced a nationwide protest for Oct. 15 to demand the government to pay outstanding debt to hospitals.
Borisov accepted the resignation Wednesday. No replacement has been named.
