World leaders to attend UN anti-poverty summit

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says nearly 140 world leaders will be attending next week's summit to spur the achievement of U.N. goals to fight poverty by 2015 _ and he says they can be reached with greater political and financial support.
Ban said diplomats have agreed on the document to be adopted at the summit which spells out actions to accelerate implementation of the goals which including cutting extreme poverty by half, ensuring universal primary education and halting and reversing the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The U.N. chief said Monday the message running through the document is that the goals "are difficult and ambitious, but doable."
He said a new campaign to reduce maternal and child mortality _ goals which are not being met _ will need an additional $26 billion in 2011.
