India's top doping official says although 12 Indian athletes have tested positive for the same stimulant within one week at several training camps, that doesn't necessarily mean there has been systematic doping.
The athletes have tested positive for methylhexanamine. They include seven people who were due to compete at the Commonwealth Games next month but have now been withdrawn from India's squad.
National Anti Doping Agency director-general Rahul Bhatnagar said Saturday that "nothing can be established other than it being a matter of chance."
NADA official Dr PSM Chandran had said that methylhexanamine can be found in some cooking oils, but Bhatnagar says if that was so then "there would certainly have been more positive cases."
