Swimmers fail to break Manhattan record

Four elite swimmers failed in their attempts to break Shelley Taylor-Smith's record in a race around Manhattan.
American Mark Warkentin, a 2008 Olympian, finished first, completing the 45.9-kilometer (28.5-mile) course in 6 hours, 16 minutes, 37 seconds _ well off the mark of 5:45:25 set by Australian Taylor-Smith in 1995.
Bulgaria's Petar Stoychev (6:28:23) was second, followed by Australian female swimmer Rondi Davies (6:43:23). American Tobey-Anne Saraceno, from nearby Rye, didn't finish.
The race started under the Triborough Bridge.
