India edges South Africa for ninth place

India defeated South Africa 4-3 on Friday to claim ninth place in the women's field hockey World Cup.
It was India's best finish in a World Cup since securing seventh place in 1978. Rani Rampal scored twice for India to bring her tournament goal tally to seven.
South Africa's 10th place was its best finish since 1998 when it finished seventh.
In late games, New Zealand played China for seventh place, and Australia played South Korea for fifth. The final is Saturday when the Netherlands take on Argentina. Germany and England also play on Saturday for third place.
