Study says Tri-Nations generated $174.3 million

With a year to go before the 2011 World Cup, the growing financial impact of international rugby has been illustrated by a study estimating that this year's Tri-Nations tournament generated $174.3 million to southern hemisphere economies.
The study by the Centre for the International Business of Sport (CIBS) says next year's inclusion of Argentina alongside New Zealand, Australia and South Africa will boost that to as much as $213.1 million.
An amateur sport until 1995, rugby union is now a huge contributor to the competing nations' tourism revenue.
New Zealand has already won the Tri-Nations ahead of Saturday's final game against Australia in Sydney, which will receive $28 million to its local economy by hosting the match.
