Pakistan's problems would not go away on Friday as Steven Davies crashed 87 off just 67 balls to help catapult England's total to 274-6 in the weather-affected first one-day international at Durham.
In a game reduced to 41 overs per side after overnight rain delayed the start by 105 minutes, England set about Pakistan's lacklustre bowlers. Davies struck 13 boundaries, while Jonathan Trott hit 69 from 78 balls. Offspinner Saeed Ajmal limited the damage with 4-58.
Ravi Bopara stretched England's total with an unbeaten 35 off just 27 balls, including a huge six clipped over square leg from Umar Gul, who allowed 67 runs from his six overs.
