French prosecutor seeks to drop 2005 riots case

A judicial official says French prosecutors want to drop a highly charged case against two police officers involving the death of two teens in 2005 that sparked nationwide riots.
The teens were electrocuted while hiding from police in a power substation on Oct. 27, 2005, in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois.
Two police officers were handed preliminary charges for "non-assistance of a person in danger."
A judicial official said Friday that the Bobigny prosecutor's office has requested the charges be dropped because there is not enough evidence the officers were aware the two teens were inside the power station. The official was not authorized to be publicly named.
