Italy holding up EU-SKorea deal

The European Union presidency says it hopes to overcome Italian objections to a free trade agreement with South Korea by next Monday by offering Rome assurances for its embattled car industry.
Italy remained the lone holdout to clinch a far-reaching free trade deal with an important Asian trade partner.
Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere, who chaired Friday's meeting of EU ministers, said he was confident the Italian objection to shield its automobile industry could be met.
If not on Monday, the EU wants to be able to have full agreement by an EU-South Korea summit on Oct. 6.
