EU wants to see judicial reforms work in Croatia

The European justice commissioner has warned that Croatia's judicial reforms must work in practice before the country can join the European Union.
Viviane Reding said at the regional conference Friday that Zagreb "now needs to speed up reforms. Not only on paper," adding that she wants "to see concrete results in practice."
Croatia is impatient to join the EU, hopefully by 2012. But the EU requires that it does more to make its judiciary fully impartial and effective, to enforce fight against corruption and organized crime and provide all rights to refugees and minorities.
Reding says there will be "no deadlines and no timeframe" for Croatia to meet those requirements and provide "progress, facts and results."
