Solberg takes lead in Rally Japan

Norway's Petter Solberg took the overall lead in the Rally Japan on Friday.
Solberg, driving a Citroen, won the first two of Friday's eight special stages to open up a gap of 9.4 seconds over two-time Rally Japan winner Mikko Hirvonen.
Sebastien Loeb of France finished in sixth place.
Loeb has a chance to win a seventh consecutive World Rally Championship title. He opened up a 58-point lead over compatriot Sebastien Ogier after winning the Rally of Germany last month and leads the standings with four rounds remaining.
Loeb would need to win this weekend and have Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala, Petter Solberg and Dani Sordo all finish lower than seventh.
