The Philippine president has warned against jumping to the conclusion that police fire hit Hong Kong tourists before an investigation into a botched hostage rescue is completed.
Eight tourists were killed after a fired police officer hijacked their tour bus on Aug. 23 to demand his job back. The hostage-taker was also killed when police stormed the bus after an 11-hour standoff.
President Benigno Aquino III was reacting on Friday to comments made the day before by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima that preliminary ballistics reports indicated some hostages may have been hit with "friendly fire" during the rescue.
De Lima heads a civilian-government committee investigating the hostage crisis that was covered by live television around the world.
